Tromp Foundation Awards at the 24th International Congress of Biometeorology
At the 24th International Congress of Biometeorology (ICB 2026), hosted from 13 - 16 July 2026, at the Faculty of Sciences, University of Novi Sad, Serbia, the Solco W. Tromp Foundation presented three prestigious scientific awards recognizing outstanding publications in peer-reviewed journals.

Tromp Foundation Travel Awards for Young Scientists at EMS 2025
At the European Meteorological Annual Meeting in Ljubljana from September 7 to 11, 2025, in Ljubljana the Tromp Foundation sponsored five awards for young scientists.
The awards consist of a waiver of the registration fee and travel support of € 750. The award was given to the young scientists who had submitted the best abstracts in the field of Biometeorology.

Dr Georgios Nikolaou of the Department of Agriculture in Cyprus was awarded for his publication on “Design of TETHYS: a greenhouse plant-smart water harvesting and air-cleaning system”, published in July 2024 in the Springer journal Euro-Mediterranean Journal for Environmental Integration.
Dr Georgios Nikolaou of the Department of Agriculture in Cyprus was awarded for his publication on “Design of TETHYS: a greenhouse plant-smart water harvesting and air-cleaning system”, published in July 2024 in the Springer journal Euro-Mediterranean Journal for Environmental Integration.
The name “Tethys“ is inspired by Greek mythology, where Tethys was the Titan goddess of the primal source of fresh water. The project objective was to develop a multiscale greenhouse model based on the speaking plant approach and to propose a plant smart water harvesting system using a desiccant wheel and air cleaning system aimed at minimizing the outflow of airborne chemical pollutants from Mediterranean-type greenhouses. Tethys is expected to have a significant impact in locations where the supply of low-cost heat or electricity is particularly expensive and in water-scarce regions. Considering its advantages over programmable greenhouse climate time-based controller devices, it is a powerful green tool for greenhouses.

At the 12th International Conference on Urban Climate (ICUC12) from July 7 to 11, 2025, in Rotterdam the Tromp Foundation sponsored three awards for young scientists.
The awards consist of a waiver of the registration fee and travel support up to € 1,000. The award was given to the young scientists who had submitted the best abstracts in the field of Biometeorology.
